On June 6, 2025, the Dresden CDU chose a new chairman: Ingo Flemming, the 56-year-old civil engineer, received 89 percent of the vote. He succeeds Markus Reichel, who did not stand for election again. This new election is seen as a strategic step towards the further development of the party, in particular before the super election year 2029, in which several important elections are due, including those for the city council, the state parliament, the Bundestag, the European Parliament and the mayor election. In the last city council election in 2024, the CDU only came to 18 percent of the vote - the lowest result since reunification.

Ingo Flemming has been a member of the CDU since 1997 and has represented the south of Dresden in the Saxon state parliament since September 1, 2019. He strives for a candidacy for the direct mandate in constituency 47 in the 2024 state election. His professional roots lie in civil engineering, where he completed comprehensive training and studying at the Technical University of Dresden.

As a new district chairman, Flemming has already made clear priorities. The reconstruction of the Carol Bridge has top priority for him. In this context, Flemming has to re -establish the party to be prepared for the upcoming elections.

The political landscape in Saxony remains dynamic. While old patterns change, an interaction with the opposition will be inevitable in the future, since the CDU cannot form majorities alone. Michael Kretschmer, the CDU's regular voter, had to be elected as Prime Minister in the second ballot with 69 votes, which underlines current uncertainty within the party.
