Dynamo Dresden secures Lennart Grill: goalkeeping battle ignited!
Dynamo Dresden has taken the next step in squad planning and brought a new goalkeeper on board. The decision fell on Lennart Grill (26), who was previously under contract with 1. FC Union Berlin. How Picture reports, the deal will be officially announced on Monday and the keeper completed his first training session on Tuesday. The Dynamo team returns from the Austria camp on Sunday, so there is great anticipation for the challenges ahead.
Grill brings valuable experience with him, having worked primarily as a substitute keeper at both Bayer Leverkusen and 1. FC Union Berlin in the past. In his career he made a total of 27 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga, most of them on loan to Eintracht Braunschweig and Greuther Fürth. Before his time in Berlin, he was trained at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, where he was considered a talent and was even once part of the German U21 national team.
Competition in goal
Things will be exciting with Grill's arrival because he will put a lot of pressure on Tim Schreiber (23), who played well last season. Schreiber celebrated a remarkable season in the third division with 38 games and only 40 goals conceded and has established himself as a reliable number one. Transfer market adds that the third goalkeeper, Daniel Mesenhöler (29), also has to reckon with grilling, as Dynamo is clearly focusing on great competition.
The sports director Thomas Brendel made it clear how important such competition in goal is in order to increase the quality of the team. The signing of Grill suggests that Dresden is not just looking for a backup, but a player who is ready to fight for the number one spot.
A look outside the box
The goalkeeper market in Germany is currently very dynamic. For example, SV Darmstadt 98 has signed Karol Niemczycki from Fortuna Düsseldorf in order to intensify the competition for the goalkeeper position. How Hesse show reports, Niemczycki will fight with Marcel Schuhen for the place in goal, which reflects the general trend in the league: more and more clubs are relying on outstanding goalkeepers to survive in a highly competitive league.
With Grill, Dynamo Dresden now has another pillar in the goalkeeper position and the fans can look forward to the coming games, which will show whether the tough competition in training pays off and which keeper has ultimately won the coach's trust.
