Art funding in focus: Molitor and Kunstverein Dresden awarded!

Something is happening in Cologne's art scene: With its annual awards ceremony, the Association of German Art Associations (ADKV) shows that art criticism and commitment to local art associations are very important. This year the prizes will be awarded as part of Art Cologne from November 6th to 9th. It was announced with joy that the outstanding art critic Noemi Y. Molitor and the Kunstverein Dresden will receive this year's awards.

Noemi Y. Molitor receives the coveted award in the art criticism category, which is worth 5,000 euros. The jury particularly recognizes the precise analyzes and their ability to link cultural and political contexts in their texts. Molitor lives in Berlin and has already received his doctorate from Emory University in the USA. She was also a columnist for the daily newspaper “taz”. Her commitment to art criticism has been recognized by this prize since 1999, which has been awarded in collaboration with Art Cologne since 2006, as reported by kunstvereine.de.

Honor for the Dresden Art Association

The prize money of 8,000 euros for the Kunstverein Dresden with its award primarily recognizes its efforts towards openness, dialogue and democratic participation in the contemporary art scene. Founded in 2017, the association has made a name for itself by bringing international artistic positions into local contexts. The art association is currently hosting an exhibition by US photographer Stacy Kranitz, which deals with the decline of a former coal region in the Appalachians, thereby demonstrating its commitment to socially relevant topics.

The award ceremony will be a highlight of Art Cologne 2023, with the exclusive opportunity to shed light on current developments and debates in the art world. The winners will be selected in September 2023, and the anticipation is palpable. After all, well-known critics such as Magdalena Kröner (2022) and Antje Stahl (2019) have also been honored in the past, which makes the prize even more valuable. Detailed information about the submitted works and the requirements can be found directly at artcologne.de.

With this in mind, the ADKV cordially invites all independent critics to apply for the prestigious prize. The deadline for submission of works is July 12, 2023. Anyone who is not afraid of the effort and can convince in their own writing has the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the great art critics.

This makes it clear: in Cologne and beyond, art criticism is not only appreciated, but also encouraged. There is a lot of potential here and it will be exciting to see how the art scene will develop further.
