Lennart Grill: New keeper for Dynamo Dresden! A career change!
A new chapter for Lennart Grill: The goalkeeper has left 1. FC Union Berlin and is now moving to SG Dynamo Dresden in the 2nd Bundesliga. After an eventful career that began with a move to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, Grill has now adjusted to the challenges of the lower house. As the club reports, Grill already had over 100 games under his belt in the 3rd division and matured into a sought-after player through his stay in the Bundesliga.
Grill's journey through the leagues took him to FC Union Berlin in 2020 after a strong performance in the 3rd division. There he gained valuable experience and played eight games in the 2022/23 season, including in the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Cup. But after stints at Osnabrück, Eintracht Braunschweig and Greuther Fürth, the next step in his career is now shining. Horst Heldt, managing director of men's professional football at RB, was extremely positive about the talented keeper and praised him for much success in Dresden. FC Union Berlin reports about his move.
The 2nd Bundesliga awaits Grill
The 2nd Bundesliga started its new season on August 2, 2024, and Grill will no doubt be eager to put his skills to the test. Since the class is characterized by well-known relegated teams such as 1. FC Köln and Darmstadt 98, the cards are high for the promotion candidates. 1. FC Köln is considered one of the top favorites to soon face Hamburger SV. Statista highlights that the league is entering the race with revenue of 786 million euros.
With a market value of over 60 million euros, 1. FC Köln is the most valuable club in the league, followed by Hertha BSC and Hamburger SV. In order to be successful in the 2nd Bundesliga, Grill has to compete with the numerous talents who have dared to make the leap from the 3rd league: Preußen Münster, Jahn Regensburg and SSV Ulm are just a few of the newcomers who are ready to prove themselves in the 2nd Bundesliga.
A look into the future
A look at the financial side reveals that the personnel costs of the second division teams vary greatly. Hamburger SV spent over 41 million euros, while Elversberg is at the other end of the scale. When it comes to transfers, there are also exciting developments: Benjamin Pavard holds the record with a transfer of 35 million euros from Stuttgart to Bayern Munich.
For many, Grill's move may seem like a step towards a new challenge, but the keeper has gained enough experience in recent years to be able to withstand the dynamics of the 2nd Bundesliga. With the aim of maintaining his place in goal, an exciting year awaits him. Kicker added with further information about developments in the league's goalkeeping department.
