On Wednesday morning, July 9, 2025, a serious accident occurred on the A4 between Nossen and Wilsdruff, which not only left two slightly injured but also led to significant traffic disruptions. At 3:10 a.m. there was a collision between an Opel Insignia, a VW Golf and a truck when the 33-year-old driver of the Opel tried to overtake the VW Golf with a 22-year-old female driver. He first collided with the central barrier and then rammed the Golf, which then overturned. The Opel then also crashed into the truck, whose 65-year-old driver fortunately remained uninjured. According to radiodresden.de, the 21-year-old passenger in the VW Golf was slightly injured and had to be taken to hospital.
The consequences of the accident were immediately noticeable: the road in the direction of Dresden was closed a short time later, resulting in a long traffic jam. What is particularly noteworthy is that the traffic obstructions in the construction site area in the direction of Dresden were only in one lane. The left lane in the opposite direction also had to be closed for the rescue workers and the towing service. Despite the two lanes available in the direction of Chemnitz, there was also a traffic jam there because one lane was also closed. The total property damage is estimated at around 40,000 euros and illustrates how quickly critical situations can arise on the roads. Traffic accidents in numbers
The most common causes of traffic accidents are insufficient distance, inadequate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. In 2023, there were around 15,700 alcohol-related accidents, which resulted in 193 deaths and 18,686 injuries. These figures make it clear that road accidents are a serious problem – both for drivers and other road users. Fortunately, those affected in the recent incident on the A4 appear to have escaped unscathed, but increased caution is always required on the roads to avoid such scenarios.
