In the past few days, a colorful array of impressive theater performances has unfolded in Bautzen and Dresden, which has a lot to offer both the region's culture enthusiasts and curious guests. Whether with classics like “Alice in Wonderland” or modern productions that address the explosive social issues – there is something for everyone here.
The performances of “Alice in Wonderland” in the Bautzen Theater are a real highlight. The magic of Lewis Carroll is impressively showcased with a production in the castle courtyard, which is known for its creative costumes. The dates extend until July 20th, with performances always starting at 7:30 p.m., except on some special dates. The address is Burgtheater, Ortenburg 7, 02625 Bautzen. Current theater projects
A particularly valuable initiative is the theater club for young people in the Burgtheater. 19 committed young people are creating a piece that deals with nationalism and its effects from 1933 to 1945. The aim is to promote a critical understanding of the mechanisms of mass movements. This thematic focus speaks directly to schools and aims to deal with current events. This not only strengthens historical knowledge, but also encourages self-reflection. Of course, Dresden also has a lot to offer. Here you can experience the rousing musical “Sister Soul”, which is based on “Sister Act”. From July 1st, the audience will be taken into the world of Josephine Becker, who escapes to the monastery and helps the nuns to polish their choir singing. The performances take place in Übigau Castle and, lasting 150 minutes, promise the best entertainment - including a break to regain your strength.
Another exciting event in Dresden is the Schaubudensommer, which takes place from July 1st to 3rd. From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., street artists will show their creative performances on the main street. An absolute must for fans of art and culture!
Various productions in the area
Not to be forgotten is the production of “Robin Hood” on the Waldbühne in Jonsdorf, which celebrated its premiere on July 5th. Here you can become part of the exciting adventures of the medieval hero, with action and a love story in a picturesque setting. The artists on the Felsenbühne in Rathen also have an exciting opera in their repertoire for July 25th, “Der Freischütz”, which tells the story of Max and his devilish pact. The premiere promises a gripping experience with a duration of 165 minutes and a dramatic plot.
