What an exciting Wednesday afternoon in Ostrapark! The 4th Sunflower Run achieved a new participant record, as a total of 1,529 running enthusiasts – young and old – piled up at the starting line. This affair of the heart was organized with the aim of collecting donations for people with cancer. In the end, over 31,000 laps were completed, which is not only a great sporting success, but also a strong sign of solidarity. Radio Dresden reports that the event was a complete success and the atmosphere on the laps was simply great.

The event wasn't just about sporting activities. A colorful supporting program was offered to inform participants about important topics. Local experts were available on a show stage and gave valuable tips on cancer prevention, early detection and new therapeutic approaches. In addition, an employee of the tumor advisory service from the Office for Health and Prevention was on site to share suggestions for promoting exercise as well as information for those affected and their relatives. Dresden.de highlights that the race began with a special start time for schools at 1 p.m. and the main event opened at 4 p.m.

The school running competition was certainly particularly exciting, in which the numerous “young wild ones” gave their best. The results speak for themselves: The 93rd primary school took first place with an impressive 2,062 laps. Behind them was the Heimerer School in Dresden with 1,533 laps and the 12th primary school after-school care center was also able to boast a good 1,051 laps.

But that wasn't all! The adults also had a lot to offer. The Dresden Municipal Hospital took first place with a fantastic performance of 4,799 laps. Linde Engineering and Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH followed in second and third place. You can tell that the motivation of the participants was huge, and the goal of collecting money for the Saxon Cancer Society was more than achieved.
