TU Dresden inspires the global sustainability congress 2025!

Istanbul, Türkei - The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) will take part in the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) in Istanbul from June 16 to 19, 2025. This significant congress offers a platform for more than 5,000 leading thinkers, innovators and political decision -makers to discuss current issues of sustainable development. Dr. André Lindner, department head for construction and environment as well as a speaker for international matters, was invited as a speaker to present the sustainability strategy of the TUD. The university thus emphasizes its commitment to the implementation of the goals for sustainable development (Sustainable Development Goals - SDGS) and will present various international and sustainable projects at the Congress.

A special highlight of the GSDC will be the live presentation of the The Impact Rankings 2025 This ranking assesses universities according to their contribution to the United Nations SDGs. The Tud has been participating in The Impact Ranking since 2022 and last year reached a top position in the area of SDG 9, which focuses on industry, innovation and infrastructure.

sustainability in university education

A coherent research approach illuminates the role of university formation in promoting sustainable practices. According to an investigation in the journal Nature , various methods were used to analyze sustainability in European universities, including the evaluation of scientific literature and surveys among teachers, researchers and employees. In total, the study identified 425 research articles on the subject of sustainability, whereby most publications come from Spain.

The interest in university formation and the SDGs is definitely on the rise. The results of the surveys show that over 40% of the institutions have completely integrated the SDGs into their plans. Nevertheless, many participants expressed concerns about the support for teachers and the connection of course content on the goals. Main problems in the implementation were identified lack of knowledge and lack of support.

SDGS in research and teaching

Another central topic is the integration of the SDGs into research and teaching. The surveys showed that many teachers have a high level of approval to combine SDGs with their research. However, the support for research that deals with the SDGs is perceived by many as inadequate. The most common topics dealt with in the research work are SDGS 11, 12 and 13.

The study also emphasizes the role of The Impact Rankings that act as a benchmark to demonstrate the benefits of the SDGs in university formation. In an increasingly digitizing learning and research environment, 76% of the participants believe that digitization will promote the integration of SDGs.

In summary, it can be said that with its participation in the GSDC, the TUD plays an active role in global dialogue with sustainability and SDGs. In view of the growing interest in these topics, the coming weeks will be exciting, since the university presents its innovative approaches to implement sustainable practices.
