Celebrate without borders: The 30th Day of Saxony starts in Sebnitz!

Things are getting colorful in Sebnitz – from September 5th to 7th, 2025, the city will proudly celebrate the 30th “Day of the Saxons”. This numerous festival expects tens of thousands of visitors and is a real highlight in the event calendar. The big parade, which features around 1,800 participants and an impressive 90 displays, is the highlight of the event and will last over two hours. Numerous marching bands, bands and floats will create a festive atmosphere. As MDR reports, the parade will be broadcast live from 2 p.m. in order to present the celebrations to those who cannot be there.

But Sebnitz has more to offer than just a parade. Under the motto “Celebrate without limits!” This time there will also be a symbolic border crossing between the mayor of Sebnitz and Dolní Poustevna in the Czech Republic, celebrating cross-border friendship. An ecomenical service on Sunday morning on the Sebnitz market square rounds off the program.

A celebration for the whole family

The opening will take place on Friday at 5 p.m. on the media stage on the market square, with Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and State Parliament President Alexander Dierks in attendance. The event, the largest festival for clubs and associations in Saxony, is all about culture, education, crafts, business and social cohesion. The mayor of Sebnitz, Ronald Kretzschmar, also spent a lot of time organizing it and describes this challenge as a 2000-piece puzzle.

With a population of 9,500, Sebnitz has a great responsibility as a host. It is the second time that the city has taken on this role since 2003 and the event is taking place across borders for the first time. The motto “To blooming experiences!” promises not only a variety of attractions, but also a feeling of togetherness across borders.

How do I get there?

The Upper Elbe Transport Association (VVO) has drawn up smart plans for the journey: There will be additional trains and buses, and shuttle buses will also be available to transport visitors from the parking lots directly to the festival site. The safety precautions should not be neglected; There are inner and outer restricted circles and only authorized vehicles are allowed to enter the party mile.

Anticipation is swarming through the streets of Sebnitz, and the city has prepared well for the event. The press conference to present the program was already a complete success and shows that the 30th “Day of the Saxons” will be a celebration for the whole family - there is a lot to experience and enjoy.
