700 kilometers in the saddle: Wiehl to Crimmitschau – an adventure!

On August 12, 2025, Christopher Pethe and Bastian Klees from Wiehl reached the market square in Crimmitschau. Your goal? An impressive bike tour that will take you over around 700 kilometers to the easternmost point of Germany, Görlitz. It started on August 8th at the town hall in Wiehl. There the two were given a ceremonial farewell by Mayor Ulrich Stücker before they set off on their journey through the picturesque landscape, which took them through places such as Bad Berleburg, Borken, Eisenach and Weimar. These stages are not only sporting challenges, but also an opportunity to get to know the two cities and their regions better, as Blick.de reports.

The cyclists received a warm welcome in Crimmitschau. Mayor André Raphael welcomed them personally. As part of the exchange, Pethe and Klees presented a T-shirt commemorating the rise of their hometown club, BSV Bielstein. In return, Raphael received an Eispireten Crimmitschau jersey that bears Mario Scalzo's number 79. These gifts symbolize the good partnership between Wiehl and Crimmitschau, in which Pethe is actively involved as a member of the partnership association, as bsv-bielstein.de highlights.

The route and its stages

Pethe and Klees' bike tour is part of a long-term project: They want to visit all four geographical extreme points in Germany, known as the Zipfelbund, by bike. Last year they reached the northernmost point on Sylt and this year they reached the easternmost point in Görlitz. The route also takes them via the state capital Dresden, where they will take a break on August 13th before the big finale on August 14th in Görlitz.

  • Tag 1 (08.08.2025): Bad Berleburg
  • Tag 2 (09.08.2025): Borken
  • Tag 3 (10.08.2025): Eisenach
  • Tag 4 (11.08.2025): Weimar
  • Tag 5 (12.08.2025): Crimmitschau
  • Tag 6 (13.08.2025): Dresden
  • Tag 7 (14.08.2025): Görlitz

But the summit tour also has its challenges. This is exemplified by the tour by Joachim W. Bohn, who also traveled to the extreme points of Germany in 2022. He covered over 3,900 kilometers in 41 days and gained a lot of experience along the way - from flat tires to exciting encounters with locals. Such stories make the extreme tours not only a sporting event, but also a personal adventure, as documented by the Zipfelbund.

Pethe and Klees' bike tour reflects their connection to the region while at the same time embodying the bikers' sporting ambitions. With every kilometer they travel, they take their homeland and the cities they visit a little further into the world. A good knack for the route, determination and the friendships they make are at the heart of their journey. Let's stay tuned to see how the next stages go!
