940,000 euros for Caritas Center: Lausitz strengthens social infrastructure!

In an exciting initiative to promote social infrastructure, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning announced today that around 940,000 euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) will be made available for the renovation of the Caritas-Centrum St. Johannes conference center in Cottbus. Infrastructure Minister Detlef Tabbert handed over the funding decision and emphasized how important this project is for the entire Lusatia. It shows that sustainable urban development is being taken seriously in the EU structural funds period 2021-2027 in order to find sustainable solutions to social challenges.[City report]

The Caritas Association of the Diocese of Görlitz e.V. is planning not only to renovate the existing conference center, but also to comprehensively restructure the Caritas center in Cottbus. The increasing needs for social advice and support services require quick action. The renovation will double the capacity, so that in the future there will be five conference rooms for 25 to 50 people, which is particularly important for specialist days and self-help groups. Currently, the existing facilities are simply no longer sufficient.[City report]

Sustainability and accessibility

A central goal of the project is not only doubling the conference capacity, but also sustainable energy renovation and barrier-free access to the conference center. The total costs of the project amount to around 1.5 million euros, with 940,000 euros being financed from the ERDF and the rest coming from our own resources. The project is scheduled to be completed by March 2027, which also goes beyond the scope of the “Sustainable Urban Development” funding program, which supports the development of “central places” in Brandenburg.[City report]

A total of 80 million euros are available from the ERDF in the state of Brandenburg, of which nine projects have already been approved by August 2025, which corresponds to funding of around 29.8 million euros. Of the 72 applications submitted, 27 are intended for support that focuses on social and cultural infrastructure, ecological progress and sustainable mobility solutions.[City report]

Further developments in the region

But it's not just the social infrastructure that's happening, there's exciting news in other areas too. The question arises as to how technologies such as the eFreight Suite, a comprehensive freight processing system, are changing the logistics industry. This software allows carriers to significantly optimize their processes while also offering financial benefits that are worth their weight in gold in these challenging times. The cloud-based solution has established itself in more than 30 countries and shows that innovations are also very popular in the logistics sector.[eFreight Suite]

On the other hand, users report technical problems with popular online games, which may be due to vulnerabilities in the software. The World of Warcraft game appears to be giving users difficulty launching, raising questions about technical support. Sounds like a challenge for the developers - an update could help here and attract new players.[Blizzard Forums]
