AfD as right-wing extremist: BfV report reveals explosive details!
There is exciting news on several levels in Görlitz. While local society is enriched by a new bakery, a problematic political development is a topic of conversation. There is a lot to report!
One of the main current topics concerns the Classification of the AfD as right-wing extremist. At the beginning of May 2025, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) classified the entire AfD as firmly right-wing extremist. This was the result of a far-reaching report that covers more than 1,100 pages and, among other things, examines the AfD's position on National Socialism. The document also mentions by name four AfD politicians from Upper Lusatia who have made statements against human dignity and the principle of democracy, including xenophobic and anti-minority positions. Sächsische.de reports that the party has taken legal action against this classification. A standstill commitment currently applies until a court decision on the AfD's urgent application is available.
Political turmoil
The political climate remains tense. Despite the fact that a court ruling is still pending, the publication of the report is sparking discussions about transparency and the role of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in democracy. The magazine Cicero, which published the classified information, argues for the need for transparency, while the AfD is still considered a suspected case, but has already unsuccessfully sued against this classification several times. Unanswered questions remain, for example regarding the consequences of the publication of the report, which could potentially have a further impact on the public perception of the party.
In the midst of these political debates, something is also happening in the city of Görlitz itself. A new branch of the Geißler bakery has opened on Dresdener Straße and is bringing a breath of fresh air to the city's gastronomic landscape. On an impressive 45 square meters, the bakery boasts up to 15 different types of bread and 20 cake variations. This opening is particularly notable as the former Wittig bakery closed due to dissatisfaction and sales problems. There is certainly great curiosity about the new baked goods!
Events in the city area
But there are changes not only in the culinary area. Görlitz also remains in the news when it comes to social issues. Tragically, a 79-year-old woman was found dead in a basement on Cottbuser Strasse. The circumstances of her death are unclear and so far there are no signs of foul play, but further investigations are pending, including chemical toxicological analysis.
There is also news from the health sector. The medical couple Dr. Birgit and André Suchland are planning to open their new practices in Schöpstal on July 1st after moving from their old practice in Weinhübel. Dr. Suchland, a general practitioner, and her husband, a specialist in psychiatry, are looking forward to the new opportunities that this move offers - not only for them, but also for the people in Schöpstal.
In summary, Görlitz is currently experiencing an exciting mix of positive developments and challenging political circumstances. It remains to be seen how the situation surrounding the AfD will develop and what impact this will have on the community.
