Drunk driver causes serious accident in Görlitz!
There are always worrying incidents in the Görlitz region, especially in road traffic. On October 25, 2025, a serious traffic accident in Görlitz made headlines. At around 11:20 p.m., a dark blue Ford Fiesta driven by a 28-year-old driver overturned. He had a 26-year-old passenger with him who was seriously injured in the accident and had to be taken to hospital. Excessive speed is believed to have been the cause of the accident, which resulted in the vehicle landing on its passenger side in the adjacent grass. Although the passenger was seriously injured, the driver was uninjured. A rapid test on site also detected drugs and alcohol, with the driver having a blood alcohol level of 0.38. It also emerged that he did not have a valid driver's license and the Ford Fiesta may not have been registered. The police investigation is ongoing, according to Tag24.
Another incident occurred today in Lodenau, where a 39-year-old drunk driver caused an accident on the S 127. He left the road and hit a tree. A breath alcohol test revealed a shocking level of 2.22 per mille. The material damage is estimated at around 11,000 euros. Proceedings were initiated against the driver for endangering road traffic, report Sächsische.
Crime and theft
In Zittau, a 24-year-old man was caught pushing a stolen scooter. He had broken the handlebar lock and the damage is around 500 euros, while the value of the scooter is around 2,500 euros. The police have launched an investigation into the theft. At the same time, there were reports of an increasing number of break-ins in Löbau, where several garages were broken into and a Simson S51 and a lawnmower were stolen. The damage from theft amounts to around 6,000 euros.
But thefts in the region have also increased in recent days. An e-bike worth 3,400 euros and a gravel bike worth 250 euros were stolen in Görlitz on Thursday. On Monday of this week, unknown people got stuck in a supermarket in Neugersdorf and caused damage amounting to 5,000 euros.
Road safety in focus
The police continue to carry out speed checks. For example, a 23-year-old was caught going 17 km/h over the limit and had to take a drug test, which came back positive for cannabis. A blood test was ordered. In addition, drugs were confiscated several times during checks, which indicates a growing problem in the region. A driver in Görlitz was also driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.88.
Another drawback is dealing with firecrackers. A Polish pedestrian was stopped with 18 firecrackers without permission. The police want to investigate such incidents consistently, especially in view of the upcoming celebrations, which are often accompanied by an increase in disorderly behavior.
The large number of incidents raises questions about road safety and the fight against crime. While police continue to investigate, it remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming weeks.
