Discover the Stone Zoo: Animal adventures in the Zittau Mountains!

The Zittau Mountains Nature Park has its own charm, and now this is underlined with a new experience. The Stone Zoo offers visitors the opportunity to experience impressive rock formations reminiscent of animal figures up close. Animals such as rhinos and lions seem to live among the sandstone cliffs, captivating many nature enthusiasts. The special shapes are part of the charming landscape, which is characterized by influences from Saxony and Bohemia.

The highlight of this adventure are the three new audiovisual tours that lead through the stone zoo. These tours are not only fun for the little ones, but are also fun for adults. The app used for the tours tells stories about nature, history and geology at a total of eight experience stations. Uh-oh, I almost forgot: The app can be easily opened in the browser, no download is necessary!

Interactive experiences for the whole family

The tours are designed to be ideal as a family adventure. A special feature is the entertaining combination of exercise, education and play. The interactive app has some quiz questions that are not only child-friendly but can also captivate adults. And don't worry, even if you make a mistake you won't be thrown out of the tour!

  • Lückendorfer Tour: 6,7 km, Dauer ca. 2 Stunden, Themen: Wald und seine Bewohner.
  • Oybin-Tour: ca. 11 km, Dauer 3,5 bis 4 Stunden, Themen: Felsformationen, Geschichte von Burg und Kloster Oybin.
  • Jonsdorfer Tour: 4,7 km, Dauer ca. 1,5 Stunden, Themen: historische Steinbrüche und Mühlsteine.

A special treat is the stroller-friendly section of the stone zoo tour. This means that family units traveling with little explorers can also experience the beauty of nature. Around the Fuchskanzel near Brückendorf, the animal search can also be combined with a visit to the Karlsfried castle ruins.

A gem in nature

The Zittau Mountains Nature Park is the smallest German low mountain range and offers a beautiful mix of Saxon and Bohemian influences. Fabulous rock formations and picturesque valleys characterize the landscape, which blends harmoniously with historic towns like Zittau and idyllic villages. The typical Upper Lusatian half-timbered houses define the townscape and give the region a nostalgic character.

So if you feel like a little adventure in nature, don't hesitate and plan a visit to the stone zoo, where exciting stories and fascinating rock formations await you. Further information can be found on the website Stone Zoo. Here nature and education are combined in an exciting way - an excursion that thrills both the heart and the mind!
