This step is part of a more comprehensive retail and center concept that aims to strengthen Görlitz as a central supply area.

A central obstacle has so far been the classification of the Lidl branch. It was not in the immediate vicinity and was therefore not classified as an attractive supply location. A new Rewe market is also built on the site of the former car structure, which ensures an improvement in shopping. The adjustments include the establishment of a central supply area in the western city center and the creation of a local supply site in Hagenwerder. There is already the interest of a retail chain in August-Bebel-Straße. These strategies are not only aimed at improving the supply options, but also making the structures in retail. Visible changes also took place in the planned measures to revive the city center in Görlitz. It is increasingly placed on the creation of lively and inviting rooms in order to counteract the falling trade density. The aim is to make the inner cities more attractive, multicoded and "greener". Urban planning Dr. Jansen emphasizes that small measures, such as creating beautiful places with water features or cozy ice cream parlors, can contribute to revival.

Despite the positive development, there were also critical voices. At the most recent city council meeting, a new point was brought in to the renovation of the Art Nouveau department store by Winfried Stöcker, which met with resistance. The Left Party and the Motor Görlitz/Alliance Green/SPD faction expressed concerns about the short -term insertion and the attempt to accelerate the decisions to revive the department store. Mayor Octavian Ursu still campaigned for the decision, even if there are concerns. The final decision on the renovation is made by the State Directorate of Saxony.
