Margrit Kempgen will be 75: A festival for the Silesian legacy in Görlitz!

On Saturday, May 30, 2025, a very special occasion is celebrated in Görlitz: Margrit Kempgen will be 75 years old. The former CFO of the Evangelical Görlitz regional church has volunteered for the regional Evangelical Community for many years, reports Sächsische.de .

I was the managing director of the Evangelical Cultural Foundation around the Holy Grab and recently headed the Evangelisches Silesia office in Görlitz. In this office, the threads for four important foundations are linked: the Evangelisches Silesia Church Foundation, the Community of Evangelical Silesians, the Johann-Hermann Foundation and the Association for Silesian Church History.

ceremony in the Peterskirche

For the celebration in the festively decorated framework of the Peterskirche, more than 200 guests are expected. The event is headed by the former general superintendent Martin Herche. The prominent guests include Görlitz old bishop Klaus Wollenweber, the Evangelical Breslauer Bishop Waldemar Pytel, Görlitz regional bishop Theresa Rinecker, Mayor of Görlitz Octavian Ursu and superintendent Daniel Schmidt.

The day begins at 10 a.m. with a "soul feast". After that, the guests can expect a market of possibilities as well as a buffet with Silesian delicacies from 11 a.m. At 12 noon, those present can celebrate the cultural roots of the region in organ music and the shared singing of Silesian songs. The entire ceremony is public and invites everyone interested to participate in this special day.

insights into the Silesian culture

Margrit Kempgen's great commitment to Silesian culture not only inspired numerous people in Görlitz, but also. In May 2025, the annual conference of the Evangelical Silesian community took place in Jauernick-Buschbach, which among other things had an opening exhibition with the works of Andreas Neumann-Notten. A highlight of this event was the feast under the motto "Remembering - Keeping - passing on". These are just a few of the many activities that contribute to strengthening and preserving Silesian culture, such as evangelische-schlesien.de shown in detail.

The Evangelisches Silesia Foundation, founded in 2005, has the goal of preserving and conveying the intellectual tradition of the Evangelical Silesia. The foundation is an amalgamation of various church and cultural institutions that work for the collection and development of documents and evidence of Evangelical Silesian origin. These efforts illustrate the importance of mutual support within the community, which goes beyond the establishment of Foundations

Margrit Kempgen's 75th birthday is not only remembered as a personal festival, but also as a worthy tribute to their decades of work and dedication to the Protestant community and the culture of Silesia.
