New customs complex and CFLAB: Görlitz is building the future in the commercial area!

A lot is happening in the Görlitz-Klein Galde industrial area: A modern new building for customs is being built there, the completion of which is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Until then, it will be tackled in the area and correctly, because the shell construction work is already underway and should be completed by the end of September 2023. The total costs for this ambitious construction project amount to around 13 million euros. Customs will move from its previous office in Schützenstrasse, which should further increase the attractiveness of the location. It is also interesting that the city of Görlitz is currently negotiating with the federal government about the sale of the Schützenstraße 6 building, which is to be integrated into a adult education center. The neighboring building Schützenstraße 7 is already part of the urban property, and the two are to be transformed into a VHS campus. [Saxon] reports that the development of the site in the former industrial area is important for the future.

But that's not all in the clinic. The Construction Future Lab (CFLAB) will also find its home here. The planned research and development center for the construction industry pursues the motto "Building 4.0" and is intended to work interdisciplinary. The aim is to bring new construction and construction machine technologies to market maturity. Professor Jens Otto from the TU Dresden emphasizes the importance of cooperation with small and medium -sized companies in the construction industry, which often do not have their own research departments and thus have urgent need for innovation. Particularly gratifying: Minister of State Thomas Schmidt was able to hand over a notice of funding over 9.1 million euros, which comes from the structural change pot. Overall, 15.3 million euros are available for the project, which will strongly support the Görlitz region. [Strong for Lausitz] emphasizes the close cooperation with regional companies in order to promote sustainable development.

a lighthouse of research

With the CFLAB, a 1000 square meter workshop will be created, which will offer space for creative minds. It is planned that around 30 employees will work in the new research center after completion. Fortunately, construction for the CFLAB is planned in 2024, with an expected construction period of one to one and a year and a half. The first groundbreaking is to be set in August 2023, with construction work that will begin in February 2026. A topping -out ceremony is in prospect for June 2026. [Saxon] notes that the construction costs of the CFLAB are valued at a maximum of 6.9 million euros gross.

The CFLAB is not only a construction project, but also a catalyst for innovative ideas. The close cooperation between research and regional economy is promoted to develop technologies that can soon be introduced into the market. The interdisciplinary way of working is intensively supported by the TU Dresden and other partners to found start-ups and revive the regional construction industry. An important aspect that [strong for Lausitz] emphasizes are the special funding that aims to use application -oriented research.

transformation and opportunities for Görlitz

The IZS in Görlitz also plays an important role in this context. It is a common establishment of the Technical University of Dresden and faces the challenge of adapting cities and regions to social changes. It is also examined how the revitalization of small and medium-sized cities can succeed in keeping the quality of life on site. The European city of Görlitz/Zgorzelec serves as a cross -border city laboratory, which promotes networking and international perspectives in research. [IZS Görlitz] emphasizes the need for sustainable urban development and the role of science in the transformation of the region.

The developments in Görlitz are promising and clearly show that innovative approaches and targeted investments can be designed a positive future for the region. Through projects such as the CFLAB and the redesign of existing buildings, a strong signal for the construction industry and the entire region is sent out. The local business location seems to be in the rise and has the potential to establish itself as a pioneer in terms of sustainable construction and interdisciplinary research.
