Strike in Görlitz: Employees fight for higher wages and better contracts!

In Görlitz and the surrounding area, the topic is not only hot, but also pressing: Employees of different industries and facilities are emphasized for better wages and fair collective agreements. A full-day warning strike began yesterday, initiated by the Verdi union, which particularly focused on the employees of the ASB Supervision and Social Services gGmbH.

The strikers have clear demands: they want a house collective agreement to improve working conditions for all employees of the facility. Negotiations on this house tariff have been running for months without a solution being in sight. Verdi blames the management for blockade, since a serious willingness to talk about the required contract is not recognizable. Union secretary Theresa Menzel also criticized that the recent improvements that were obtained for the nursing staff are not sufficient to satisfy the entire workforce, which leads to resentment and internal tensions MDR.

protests from different areas

But the ASB employees are not the only ones who take to the streets. The teachers of the district music school in Görlitz were also musically and protested musically before the district council. Here Verdi calls for an alignment of the remuneration to the collective agreement of the public service (TVöD). The approach to work out their own house collective agreement would be a step in the right direction for the music school teachers. A solution has been searched since 2016, but the draft contract developed in 2020 has so far been unused.

District Administrator Stephan Meyer expressed understanding of the protests, but also pointed out the limited financial possibilities of the district. It remains to be seen how the responsible bodies will react to the claims.

The automotive industry is also affected

Another focus is on the employees of Hedin Automotive who continue their warning strikes. The eight car dealerships in Ostsachsen, including the car dealership on Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße in Görlitz, are the focus of the unfortunately necessary actions, since the employees demand in accordance with a house collective agreement. The union tailor can also be measured here, because a recognized wages are simply not given for the employees. According to IG Metall, around 260 employees have joined the union "to a large extent" to defend themselves against the inadequate wages, while the management only wants to negotiate operational regulations.

Overall, the current strikes not only illustrate the challenges that the unions look for, but also the need to create fair and uniform working conditions. The research project "Opportunities and Challenges for Unions" will deal with these questions in detail in order to set up recommendations for action for the future [wsi] (https://www.wsi.de/de/forschungsprojekt-kläche- und- Hershernungen-in-zeiten-Angespanschaft--55340.htm).
