Traditional Tippelmarkt in Görlitz: ceramics and craftsmanship inspire!
Last weekend, the traditional Silesian Tippelmarkt took place in the picturesque old town of Görlitz, which took place for the twentieth time this year. The event, which was organized by the Görlitzer Kulturservicegesellschaft, attracted numerous visitors and offered a colorful hustle and bustle of arts and crafts and culinary delights. Particularly noteworthy was the stand of Lorenz Wittich, a master potter from Jena, who demonstrated his skills live at the turntable and thrilled visitors with hand-made ceramics in various colors and shapes. Offerings from 64 other potters made the market's range a real delight for every ceramic lover.
How Sächsische.de reports, Wittich was enthusiastic about the quality of the organization and the lively atmosphere of the event. The Brüderstraße was well filled with interested visitors throughout the market, who were able to learn a lot about the art of pottery in addition to handicraft products. An anonymous couple expressed their delight at the variety and quality of products on offer at the market.
A celebration of craftsmanship and cuisine
However, the event not only offered the opportunity to purchase multi-faceted hand-made ceramics, but also a variety of other products. As part of the “Everything for Tippel” campaign, the focus was also on reviving traditional ceramic vessels, which are used, among other things, to store food such as coffee, pasta and jam. Organizers invited vendors whose wares could be displayed and sold in contemporary ceramic vessels, highlighting the event's eco-friendly approach.
The design of the market was slightly different this time because there were fewer cultural offerings compared to previous years. Live music only created a relaxed atmosphere on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. An emotional downer was the appearance of Günter Meißner, the “Singing Pottery Master”, who was canceled due to health reasons and whose contributions were always a highlight of the market. The traditional opening to celebrate the market included the entry of the potters and a special performance by the “Silesian Tippelwoman”.
Chief organizer Gerd Weise was pleased about the growing interest in handcrafted art and emphasized the market's character as a specialist craft market. Next year, the Tippelmarkt will open its doors again on the third weekend in July and offer both locals and visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of ceramic art.
