Hands-on science: Great fun at the Oha! Science Adventure” in Görlitz!

On September 20, 2025, the science festival “oha! Science Adventure” took place on the Postplatz in Görlitz. The event, organized by Hi!Lusatia e.V. in collaboration with the Saxon Agency for Structural Development, attracted numerous curious visitors and offered a colorful mix of interactive stations. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) also presented its innovative solutions, inspiring young and old alike. [DLR] reports that the DLR Institute for Low-CO2 Industrial Processes from Zittau in particular used its participation to address questions about sustainability and modern technologies.

Why was the festival so special? The interactive experiment mile was a real highlight: children, young people and adults had the opportunity to become active and experiment themselves. In addition to exciting information about current research projects, participants were able to immerse themselves in the world of 3D printing and artificial intelligence. For example, it demonstrated how AI is used in the development of sustainable materials and novel cancer therapies. The whole thing not only offers an insight into science, but also stimulates the imagination!

Diverse topics and activities

The thematic range ranged from the search for substitutes for plastic with natural fibers to radio astronomical surveys in Lusatia. Visitors were able to take part in various hands-on stations and talk to science teams. This promotes exchange between science and society and makes complex topics tangible.

The event shows that interest in science and research remains unbroken. The younger generation in particular is introduced to important topics in a playful way. And the commitment doesn't stop there: The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) promotes comprehensive initiatives for sustainability in science so that universities and research institutions are able to develop resource-saving solutions. Successful approaches to climate neutrality and low-emission mobility are being developed in over 35 universities – together with students and regional partners. [BMFTR] emphasizes how important it is that not only scientists but also society are actively involved in these projects.

A step into the future

The "oha! Science Adventure" was more than just a one-off event - it was a platform to discuss future issues and provide inspiration for sustainable action. The significant topics discussed here have the potential to have a positive impact on the future of Lusatia. The many committed participants are a ray of hope that awakens hope for a more sustainable world.

The great interest clearly shows that creativity and scientific curiosity must go hand in hand in order to find innovative solutions to the challenges of our time. At this festival, the community showed together that they are ready to take responsibility for the future. Let's stay tuned to see what new projects and ideas will emerge from these creative minds!
