In Saxony-Anhalt, a state ceremony is being prepared in memory of the former Prime Minister Wolfgang Böhmer (CDU). The sought-after politician died in June 2023 at the age of 89, but those responsible are now honoring his legacy, as MDR reports. A memorial service is planned for the end of August, which will take place after the summer break.
Wolfgang Böhmer was Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt from 2002 to 2011 and left an important legacy in the state's politics. Not only was he the driving force behind political and economic transformation after reunification, but he was also respected across party lines. A life in the service of politics
Böhmer began his political career as a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 and remained so until 2011, interrupted by short phases in the fourth and fifth electoral terms. In addition to his role as Prime Minister, he was also Minister for Finance (1991-1993) and Minister for Labor and Social Affairs (1993-1994).
