Celtic gold coin discovered in Saxony – a 2,200-year-old treasure!
A remarkable archaeological find was recently made in Saxony: an approximately 2,200-year-old Celtic gold coin came to light. This valuable treasure was discovered in July by a detectorist in a field near Gundorf, northwest of Leipzig, and last week was described by the Saxon Ministry of Culture as “unique” for the region. The discovery proves the Celtic connections as far away as northern Bohemia, where similar coins from the third century BC are known, reported RP Online.
Analysis of the find by the Saxon State Office of Archeology showed that the coin was almost entirely made of pure gold and weighed two grams. On the front it shows the stylized head of an animal, while the back is decorated with an open neck ring, a star and a ball. This Eastern Celtic coin, also known as the "Rainbow Bowl," got its name from its domed shape and the superstition that such coins were often found after rainfall - as if they had fallen from the sky where a rainbow touched the earth.
A look into history
The find not only provides information about the existence of the Celts in this region, but is also a valuable piece of history. The connection to the Celtic cultures in Bohemia shows that the people of this time were far more connected than one might initially assume. Archaeologists and historians agree that such discoveries greatly expand our understanding of our past.
This gold coin could not only make collectors' hearts beat faster, but could also be of immense importance for science. The coin's importance in research could make waves, so it will be exciting to see what further insights this discovery will bring.
Technological innovations in healthcare
While the Old World and its treasures are in the spotlight, there is also news from the modern world: ZetrOZ Systems has received new FDA approvals for expanded indications with its portable ultrasound device sam® 2.0. The device, which has proven to be extremely effective, especially for athletes, is now also approved for the treatment of soft tissue injuries and knee osteoarthritis. This development could represent real progress for many patients suffering from chronic problems.
Over 40 scientific studies support the effectiveness of the sam® device, which is currently the only FDA-approved portable ultrasound technology for daily use at home. The FDA's certification gives health care providers the ability to prescribe the device with confidence and could also lead to health insurance companies covering the costs. A big step towards a future in which patients may have to rely less on more invasive therapies.
As you can see, there is an exciting exchange between the past and the present in science and research in both archeology and medical technology. Whether ancient coins or modern technologies – the diversity of discoveries cuts across all areas of our society.
