The car supplier crisis: impending layoffs in eastern Germany!
Sachsen, Deutschland - The automotive industry in Germany is under pressure, and many are concerned. Especially in the east of the country, the suppliers feel the effects of factory closures and a worrying job cuts. IG Metall reports that around 200,000 people are employed in the supply industry in eastern Germany. However, the crisis already has consequences: In Thuringia, entrepreneurs such as Rico Chmelik, managing director of the Automotive Association of Thuringia, report numerous layoffs, location closings and bankruptcy at regional suppliers.
In the past two years, the number of these incidents has increased, a clear reference to the challenges of globalization and structural change. Despite the difficulties, the majority of Thuringia's 690 suppliers who count around 60,000 employees remains robust. These companies rely on adaptability, especially in the areas of CO2-neutral production, digitization and artificial intelligence.
challenges and support in Saxony-Anhalt
Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Economics Sven Schulze has highlighted the difficulties in adapting for some suppliers, especially foundries. His goal is to maintain the automotive supply industry in the country in the long term and to support the companies concerned. Around 25,500 people are currently working in the Saxony-Anhalt's Auto delivery industry, whereby many of the companies are family-run.
The situation in Saxony is also tense. The auto supply industry with around 70,000 employees is the most important industry here. Dirk Vogel, head of the automotive supplier network in Saxony, reports on a job cuts of around 5,000 jobs, which mainly affects temporary workers. Vogel is critical of the high price claims of the automotive manufacturers and the impending relocation of orders to low -wage countries. Planning security and targeted support programs are urgently needed here.
Future -oriented approaches in the region
In order to escape the vicious circle, the MAH-Net has been founded as a transformation network for the vehicle and supplier industry. In 2022 on the initiative of Saxony-Anhalt Automotive e.V., the network aims to develop a strategy for structural change in the automotive industry. Cooperation with partners from business, science and politics is intended to create a future -proof, cross -sector industry.
The initiative focuses on three fields of action: modern working environments, sustainable added value and regional perspectives. With their approach to information, networking and promoting joint projects, the MAH-NET hopes to improve economic stability and employment security in the region.
A comprehensive study on the situation analysis of the supply industry and adjacent industries is also on the agenda. This analysis will include a SWOT analysis and develop specific recommendations for action for new future fields. In the coming weeks, several important events are on the program, including the IG Metall Structural Political Conference in Chemnitz and the VDA Mittelstage in Bonn, which will both contribute to the discussion about the current situation in the industry.
The development in the automotive industry remains exciting. It is time that everyone involved works together and find solutions to master the challenges and to secure the future of the industry. One thing is clear: it has to be traded now because time is pushing.
