Series of fires in Leipzig: unknown people set cars on fire again!

In the last few nights, a disturbing occurrence has been making the rounds in Leipzig, especially in the Plagwitz district. Unknown perpetrators set several cars on fire and police are now investigating suspected arson. On Wednesday night, the perpetrators set a vehicle on fire, which was the third incident in a short period of time. Previously, several other cars burned in Plagwitz and the neighboring Schleußig district over the weekend and on Wednesday night.

Particular attention is paid to the fires on Beipertstrasse and in a parking lot on Antonienstrasse, where a total of three vehicles burst into flames. Tragic: One car was completely burned out, while two other cars were significantly damaged. A 36-year-old who was near one of the fires last weekend was injured, further complicating the investigation. MDR reported about this explosive situation, which only increases the concerns of the residents.

Investigations and calling for witnesses

The police are investigating whether all of these incidents are part of a larger series of arsons in the west of Leipzig. It is particularly important that witnesses come forward in order to track down the perpetrators. The authority is asking the public to call (0341) 96 64 66 66 or contact a police station directly if they have any information about the fires. Blick added That no further details have been released to protect the investigation.

Arson – A Growing Problem

Between 2014 and 2024, thousands of cases of arson were recorded by the police in Germany, which further illustrates the worrying situation. In 2024, there were a total of 11,364 arson-related crimes and the trend is increasing. These figures come from an extensive Statistics from the Federal Criminal Police Office and prove that arson is not an isolated incident, but represents a serious social problem.

It is hoped that the police can quickly bring those responsible for the recent incidents to justice. Until then, residents have no choice but to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. In the hope that such incidents will soon be a thing of the past, the Plagwitz district remains tense - and the search for the perpetrators continues.
