HSV surprises with freedom from debt and young talent Dickes!

An exciting chapter begins for Hamburger SV: The club has signed 17-year-old goalkeeper Fernando Dickes from RB Leipzig. With a height of 1.93 meters, Dickes has the ideal physical conditions and impresses with his modern goalkeeping game, as sports director Claus Costa emphasizes. The move will be free of charge, which represents good business for the club. Dickes is optimistic about the future and wants to develop further at HSV, having already played 26 competitive games for Leipzig last season, including four in the UEFA Youth League.

While HSV is strengthening its personnel, there are also significant changes in the club's management. Henrik Köncke was elected as the new president with 65.71 percent of the vote. The 34-year-old, formerly a passionate Ultra fan, sees himself as a bridge builder and emphasizes that the Ultras will not take power in the club. The other candidates include Kai Esselsgroth, who received 29.06 percent of the vote, and Frank Ockens with 5.22 percent. Almost 1,200 of the more than 127,000 members cast their votes in the election.

Financial health of the club

The financial situation of HSV is particularly remarkable: the club is now debt-free for the first time in its documented history. Chief Financial Officer Eric Huwer announced that net financial debt was zero at the end of the fiscal year. This is a huge step after HSV previously had to struggle with debts of 75 million euros. The early repayment of the stadium loan two years earlier was a particularly important step forward.

An emergency motion to suspend the election due to the non-admission of Felix Magath as a presidential candidate did not receive the necessary majority. Only 8.49 percent voted in favor, which shows that the membership supports the club's current course. Laura Ludwig also asserted herself as the new vice president and received over 90 percent of the votes.

Focus on promoting young talent

Parallel to the changes at the top of the club, HSV is planning a youth revolution. The U19 and U17 have already successfully reached the round of 16 of the DFB youth league, but there is a need for optimization in the C and D youth areas. A new concept called “Hamburg is growing” is now to be developed to support Hamburg’s amateur clubs. The aim is to create professional structures and better training for youth coaches. The vision is to produce more talent for HSV and also for FC St. Pauli and to promote the strengths of the individual players through a uniform training methodology.

All of these steps show that Hamburger SV is determined to continue to develop both on and off the pitch and to perform strongly in the upcoming Bundesliga season. It remains exciting to see how the situation in the club will develop further.
