Moratorium for Corona repayments: IHK helps 70,000 companies in Saxony!
There is great relief among entrepreneurs in Saxony. Today, the Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs decided to temporarily suspend reclaims of Corona economic aid from the federal government. This measure affects around 70,000 businesses in the region and is timely at a time when many business owners are under immense pressure. The Leipzig Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) welcomes this step and hopes that it will provide a breathing space for companies that are still struggling with the consequences of the pandemic. Another positive signal: the ministry is planning a press conference to announce the details of the repayment process, which could further reduce uncertainty for companies.
The repayment procedures specifically concern the federal program “Emergency Aid Grant Federal” and the federal government’s bridging aid. Economics Minister Dirk Panter expressed concern that many entrepreneurs find the repayment demands a major challenge. In particular, the IHK demands that reclaims be limited to verifiable overpayments and that no penalties be imposed due to initial ambiguities in the communication of the funding criteria. This would help the companies affected to better manage their economic burdens.
The moratorium in detail
What does this moratorium mean specifically for entrepreneurs? According to medienservice.sachsen.de, no new reclaims or reminders may be sent until all open issues have been clarified. The IHK will follow developments closely and work for a fair solution. To date, 49,257 recoveries have already been completed, while 27,586 are in progress and a further 29,000 recoveries are expected, the latest figures show.
In the context of Corona aid, it is also worth mentioning that Saxony does not pay any subsequent entrepreneurial wages due to the strained budget situation. Nevertheless, a total of 203,800 applications were approved in Saxony, which shows how important this aid is for the region. A total of 2.935 billion euros went to almost 98,000 benefit recipients. The application is usually submitted to the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) and was initially based on forecasts.
Legal situation and future steps
Despite the moratorium, the legal situation of the federal programs remains unchanged, which means that legal changes are not possible immediately. However, the Sächsische Aufbaubank is already working on options for adjusted repayment conditions. This is urgently needed because many companies rely on planning security in order to overcome the challenges of the coming months.
