New coach at Eisenach: Hinze wants to lead ThSV to success!
ThSV Eisenach is facing a new chapter in the club's history after Sebastian Hinze was hired as the new coach. Hinze takes over the management of the team after his predecessor Misha Kaufmann moved to Stuttgart. Eisenach, a traditional club from Thuringia, was founded in 1990 and has an exciting history in German handball, including several promotions to the Bundesliga, most recently in 2023. Club colors are blue and white, and home games are played in the Werner-Aßmann-Halle, which has space for 2,800 spectators.
The 2025/2026 season is just around the corner and starts on August 27th and 28th. Eisenach will face Leipzig on the first matchday, while SC Magdeburg will face SC Magdeburg on the second matchday. In the following game, Eisenach will play against Füchse Berlin – an exciting new edition of the Champions League final. On the last matchday of the season, Eisenach has a home game against HSV and Leipzig plays against Minden.
Changes in the coaching team
The search for a successor to Runar Sigtryggsson, who was recently released from Leipzig, is still ongoing. According to recent reports, talks are underway with Oscar Carlén, a former Bundesliga player who currently coaches Swedish club Ystads IF. These developments show that Leipzig is not only interested in the current league, but also in a strong future.
Since its founding, ThSV Eisenach has made a name for itself in youth work and runs a handball boarding school to promote talented players. Under the leadership of President Shpetim Alaj and Managing Director René Witte, the club wants to remain sustainably in the Bundesliga and develop further.
Sporting perspectives
Eisenach is currently in 11th place in the Bundesliga and was able to reach the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup. These are respectable achievements for the club, which has already completed 31 seasons in the GDR handball league and five in the GDR league.
The players in the squad include goalkeepers Matija Špikić and Silvio Heinevetter as well as some promising talents such as backcourt player Aleksandar Čaprić. Eisenach has good cards in hand and it will be interesting to see what progress the club will make under the new management.
With a planned conversion of the Werner Aßmann Hall into a modern sports and multifunctional hall by 2026, the club will not only be strengthened in terms of sport but also in terms of infrastructure. It remains to be seen how these changes will affect future games. The fans can start the new season optimistically!
