New chapter for Lok Leipzig: Coach Seitz starts the regional league with a change!

The anticipation for the new season is palpable, but... 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig There is still frustration over missing promotion to the 3rd league. After a successful season in which the championship and the national cup were won, coach Jochen Seitz's team now set the course for the regional league. Season ticket sales are going better than ever - over 2,000 tickets have already been sold!

Seitz is aware that last year's championship was impressive, but the 34 league games with only four defeats and 65 goals were not enough for promotion in the relegation game against TSV Havelse. “The disappointment still lingers,” said the coach, who played a key role in the reformation of the team. With a total of ten departures and five new additions, a personnel change begins, which is supported by a strong commitment from the team council to quickly integrate the new players.

On to the new season

The training camp in Sternberg is already underway and the start of the season is fast approaching. On July 26th we go to FSV Zwickau, and Seitz emphasizes that the expectations of the team have increased: “The internal goals are realistic but ambitious.” Two to three more players are also planned to contribute to the squad expansion.

Another highlight is the home opener against VSG Altglienicke, for which the new stadium with pitch heating and irrigation system should be completed in time. It remains to be seen whether the club will reach the target of 2,500 season tickets sold. Things are currently looking good, after all a record of 2093 tickets has already been set.

Criticism and demands for reform

On the football field, the challenges for Lok Leipzig are not just of a sporting nature. The discussion about promotion regulations remains explosive. ZDF today reports that over 30 clubs are calling for a reform of the promotion mode. The dissatisfaction runs through the entire industry, and the “Promotion Reform 2025” initiative is supported by many regional league teams and even third division teams such as Hansa Rostock and Dynamo Dresden.

The current regulation, according to which only one champion of the regional leagues is promoted directly and the rest fight for fourth place in the relegation, is perceived as unfair. This regulation not only causes sporting frustration, but also a financial gap between the third and fourth leagues, as third division teams receive over a million euros in television money, while regional league teams receive nothing.

While Lok Leipzig is preparing for the new season and fans can expect an exciting year of football, it remains to be seen whether and how the structural challenges in German football will impact the coming season. The club must focus on internal development in order to take advantage of the chance of promotion again next year. The commitment of the fans and the support of the companies could make the crucial difference.

If you would like to support the games with your ticket, you will find all the information in the current ticket overview on the official Lok Leipzig website and in Fan shop. Advance sales for the emotional home game against TSV Havelse, the champions of the Regionalliga Nord, have started soon and the interest is enormous.
