Ole Werner moves to RB Leipzig – million-dollar deal close to completion!
After long negotiations, SV Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig have finally reached an agreement on the change of coach Ole Werner. As Deichstube reports, the official confirmation of the transfer is imminent. The final contractual details will be clarified at the weekend before Werner signs a two-year contract with his new club.
The coaching change comes as no surprise after Werder Bremen parted ways with Werner at the end of May because he did not want to extend his contract until 2026. Werner, who has been working at Werder since November 2021, had previously started his career at Holstein Kiel. He will tackle his new challenge at RB Leipzig next season.
Details about the transfer fee
Werder Bremen originally demanded a transfer fee of six million euros, but as t-online reports, both clubs have adjusted their ideas about the price. RB Leipzig initially only wanted to pay three million euros. Ultimately, the clubs agreed on a transfer fee of between two and three million euros, and possible bonus payments could improve the overall package.
The negotiations were lengthy, but both sides ultimately found a compromise. Since the trio, consisting of Ole Werner and assistant coaches Patrick Kohlmann and Tim Cichon, will move to Leipzig, Werder Bremen will save around 2.5 million euros in salary costs annually.
Outlook for the new season
RB Leipzig is already planning for the new season, which will begin with the start of training on July 14th. Zsolt Löw served as interim coach until the end of the season after Marco Rose was fired. Ole Werner, who has made a name for himself in the league, will now take on the task of getting the team back on track.
Coach changes in the Bundesliga are still a hot topic. An overview of further coaching changes can be found on Transfermarkt.
