RB Leipzig snaps up Finkgräfe: future secured until 2030!

A fresh wind is blowing through the Cologne football scene! Max Finkgräfe, the talented 21-year-old left-back, has found a new club and is moving from newly promoted Bundesliga club FC Köln to RB Leipzig. The transfer, which Bild reports on, was officially announced today. Finkgräfe signs a five-year contract until the summer of 2030. The transfer fee for the young player is 4 million euros, plus possible bonuses in the six-figure range.

It was important for FC Köln to secure a transfer for Finkgräfe after he only started seven times last season despite his potential. Injuries and strong competition from Leart Paçarada made it difficult for him to secure a regular place. At RB Leipzig, however, Finkgräfe sees great development opportunities and is looking forward to the challenge of playing in an ambitious team.

Leipzig closes squad weakness

The decision in favor of Leipzig is also strategically well thought out. RB currently only has David Raum as a trained left defender in the squad. To fill the gap caused by injuries and departures, Finkgräfe was an ideal candidate. Hoffenheim had also shown interest in him, but the offer of around 2 million euros was too low to persuade Cologne to make a move. The interest in Leipzig was ultimately decisive, and the move came about quicker than originally thought.

The Cologne officials had a contract with Finkgräfe until 2026, but the need to regroup the squad opened the door for this transfer. After his 14 appearances in the Second Bundesliga, during which he made a certain name for himself, the move was the right step for both sides.

Finkgräfe's path and his future

In the 2023/24 season, Finkgräfe's market value was estimated at a respectable €6 million, showing that the talent is within him. He has already made 24 Bundesliga appearances with one goal in his career so far. This new move to RB Leipzig could give him the platform on which he can further demonstrate his skills. The left-back is eagerly awaited and is seen as a promising reinforcement for the team, which has set itself high goals for the coming season.

The Bundesliga remains a hot spot for talents like Finkgräfe, and it remains to be seen how his career will develop under the new conditions. Another Cologne player who has recently joined the league is Konrad Laimer, whose market value is estimated at around 25 million euros, which also shows how important the right development is for young players.

Finkgräfe's move is another example of how dynamic football is at the highest levels and how quickly players' paths can change. From Hoffenheim to Leipzig – the Cologne player now has the chance to assert his place in the Bundesliga and take the next steps on his career path.
