Rômulo conquers Leipzig: Brazilian striker delights the fans!
It's a crisp autumn day in Leipzig, and new Brazilian striker Rômulo Cardoso has already found his feet. Since moving to RB Leipzig on August 15, the 23-year-old has played a central role in the team's offensive game. After just a month and a half, he attracted attention with two goals and an assist and was in the starting line-up five times in a row. While the striker quickly integrated into the team, reports OneFootball that he initially had difficulty finding a suitable apartment, but is now happy in his new home.
Rômulo and his strike partner Conrad Harder communicate on the pitch in Portuguese, with Rômulo even giving him tutoring. At the same time, the Brazilian started taking German lessons in order to better master the language. He describes the Bundesliga as an intense challenge that improves his game. Head coach Ole Werner already praises him as a valuable target player who is also strong defensively.
A look at Rômulo's career
Before moving to Germany, Rômulo had a promising career in Brazilian football. Born in Marialva, he started in the Maringá youth academy and quickly rose through the ranks. In 2018 he was third top scorer in the U17 national championship in Paraná. This was followed in 2019 by a position in Paranaense's youth academy, where he scored a total of 10 goals in 81 games before making his debut in Série A in 2021. He later moved to Göztepe in the Turkish Süper Lig and helped the club gain promotion, while contributing five goals and three assists along the way Bundesliga emerges.
Rômulo describes his move to RB Leipzig as a big step in his career and is determined to continue his development. With an impressive height of 1.93 m and a similar playing style to his predecessor Benjamin Šeško, Rômulo brings a welcome presence to the Saxons' offensive. Last season he scored an impressive 22 goals in 29 Süper Lig games. While Rômulo is looking forward to the challenges of the Bundesliga, his dream of one day playing for the Brazilian national team remains unfulfilled. Nevertheless, he notes that his focus is currently entirely on RB Leipzig.
Role models for the future
Rômulo has great idols who inspire him. He particularly mentions Neymar and Grafite, two outstanding Brazilian footballers who impressed him early on. Rômulo has already scored in two home games, including a spectacular backheel goal on his debut against Heidenheim, which is considered his first highlight in the Bundesliga. With the international break approaching, he plans to further explore Leipzig and get to know his new home better.
Brazil is not only known for its football talent, but also a record world champion in football with five titles, most recently in 2002. Players like Pelé, Ronaldo and Neymar are just a few of the many legends that the country has produced. Rômulo aspires to one day be one of these greats, and the way to get there is through his performances in Leipzig. He plans to invite his family to a home game at Red Bull Arena and hopes they can watch his progress on the field.
With Rômulo, RB Leipzig has a promising player in its ranks who is both taking on the challenge of the Bundesliga and pursuing big dreams. We're excited to see what other surprises this rising star has in store.
