Trainer Poker! Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig before the agreement collapses?
In the last few days there has been a lot of turmoil surrounding the coaching changes in the Bundesliga. A hot topic is the possible change of Ole Werner from Werder Bremen to RB Leipzig. As the reporting shows, Werner has already agreed on a commitment with the Saxon club. But an agreement is still pending between the two clubs.
Those responsible in Bremen are demanding a transfer fee of around six million euros for Werner and his assistants. RB Leipzig, on the other hand, does not want to pay more than three million euros. This could be the sticking point for the transfer, as neither side has made any move in this regard so far. According to current reports, the deal is even in danger of falling through as Leipzig is already looking for alternatives. Werner was considered the top candidate after other coaching inquiries came to nothing. Now he is the last remaining candidate for the coaching bench at Leipzig.
The negotiations seem deadlocked
Werder Bremen's sports director, Clemens Fritz, even reduced his original demand from 9 million euros to the required 6 million. However, it remains unclear whether RB Leipzig is willing to pay this price. Loud Sports picture A breakthrough in the negotiations on Sunday cannot be ruled out. Fritz will take part in a charity match and plans to contact RB managing director Marcel Schäfer afterwards. It remains to be seen whether these discussions will provide new impetus.
Paradoxical, but not surprising: the history of coaching changes in the Bundesliga is a long one. A look at the last ten years shows that around eight of the 18 Bundesliga teams experienced more coaching changes during this time. Clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart particularly stood out with eleven and fifteen changes respectively. In this context, the question arises: Why are coaching changes so frequent in football?
The reasons for frequent coach changes
The high expectations placed on the teams are often responsible for this fluctuation. Teams that fall short of their standards often do not hesitate to part ways with their coaches. The average number of head coaches per team in the Bundesliga has been around 8.5 since January 2015. For comparison: In other leagues such as the German Ice Hockey League there are around 7. With a turnover of 4.45 billion euros, football is the sport with the highest turnover in Germany and therefore also entails many decisions regarding coaching.
The discussion about the usefulness of coaching changes is lively in the BR24 community. Studies suggest that coaching changes can actually improve performance, especially when team dissatisfaction grows. In the case of Ole Werner, the outcome of the current negotiations could soon be decided - and the next few weeks could have a lasting impact on the fate of both clubs.
