Leipzig team fetches silver at the European Statistics Competition 2025!

In a remarkable achievement, two German teams at the European Statistics Competition (ESC) 2025 reached the top 6. According to Destatis.de this year around 27,000 pupils from 21 EU member states participated in the competition, the statistical competence to promote.

The “Farao” team from Leipzig (Saxony) convinced the international jury and secured the excellent 2nd place in category B for grades 8 to 10. With the topic “is gen z alternating the world?” the relevance of the current generation in society was examined. The team was supervised by teacher Ronny Möbius, and it was part of a competition with 32 teams from 20 EU countries. A team from Lithuania won the victory in this category.

success from Germany and a wide -ranging participation

The “Staquistik” team from the Max Planck School in Kiel, which took the 6th place in category A (grades 11 to 13), achieved another remarkable result. A total of over 530 students from 120 teams from 120 schools were mobilized from Germany to participate, which underlines the record participation in the 8th round of competition. "Germany and France are the only countries that can show two placements in the European final", emphasizes ec.europa.eu.

In the European Statistics Competition, not only knowledge is imparted, but also conveyed how interesting and relevant statistics in school lessons can be. Student teams carry out data research and create their own statistics to deepen their understanding and interest in this important field.

European award ceremony in Lisbon

The national and European rounds were organized by Eurostat and the national statistical offices, and the final contributions are available on the website www.esc2025.eu. On June 24, 2025, the European award ceremony will take place in Lisbon, which will be broadcast live. There the winning teams are announced and honored.
