8.7 million euros for the Lößnitzbach: Radebeul becomes ecological!
An important investment for the ecological future of the city of Radebeul: The State Directorate of Saxony has granted the municipality of funding of around 8.7 million euros, which are intended for the natural redesign of the Lößnitzbach. This initiative extends over an approximately 1.6-kilometer section in the Serkowitz district, such as Diesachsen.de
The Lößnitzbach, which has so far been characterized primarily by its piped sections and a poor ecological state, is to be fundamentally redesigned. The stream will be relocated and disclosed in the future - from the previous course in Serkowitz to the western edge, where it finally flows into the Elbe. The aim of the measure is not only the ecological upgrading of the water, but also the improvement of flood protection, since flooding occurred in the past with smaller flood events.
ecological measures in focus
The measures include a natural design of the water section. Röhicht, upsets and trees are to be planted along the stream in order to improve the ecological state. At the same time, the adjacent sea ditch is also adapted to the new route in order to increase the drainage capacity and to be able to better manage future flood events. This happens in the context of natural water entertainment, in which ecological points of view are becoming increasingly important, as the Environmental Office explained.
There is further focus on the unbundling of the mixed water canal, which is currently culminating in Lößnitzbach. This should significantly improve water quality and at the same time strengthen the ecological habitat for many species. For example, 1,730 square meters are created new habitats for reptiles and nesting aids for birds and bats. This part of the plan is already well advanced, and monitoring over two years is also planned to ensure the success of the measures.
Adjust infrastructure
To implement this demanding redesign, structural measures are also necessary. The construction of new bridges and the adaptation of lines are planned to meet the requirements of natural water care. A good knack for respectful handling of our natural resources is required in order not to maximize the ecological advantages and not to neglect the transport infrastructure.
The transfer of the funding notice will take place on Tuesday, July 22nd, in Radebeul. Important actors such as Béla Bélafi, the President of the State Directorate of Saxony, Radebeul's Mayor Bert Wendsche and the responsible planner will be present. Together everyone involved looks at a project that not only benefits nature, but also the citizens: inside the city.
All of these measures not only bring the Lößnitzbach to a new bloom, but can also make a contribution to a more sustainable way of dealing with our waters. It remains exciting to observe how this planned redesign will develop in the coming years and what positive effects it will have on the local flora and fauna. For Radebeul, this means a good deal more quality of life and security for flood events.
