Invitation to the start of school: Lampertswalde celebrates with music and costumes!

The start of school is a big event for many children, and this special day is also celebrated in Lampertswalde. Next Saturday, the students at Lampertswalde Elementary School will welcome a total of 34 new first graders. This ceremonial enrollment is organized through a varied program put together by the fourth graders. The students have been practicing diligently since the end of the last school year to make the school world more appealing to their new classmates. As Sächsische reports, the highlight of the program will be a musical piece in which Mailo Kretzschmar as the wolf and the bee plays leading roles.

The older students are really looking forward to it because they still remember when they started school. Amelie Dörig, also from fourth grade, can hardly wait to delight her little “protégés” with an entertaining performance. With colorful animal costumes and self-designed props created in art class, the event is sure to be a hit. The fourth graders wish their new colleagues lots of fun, happiness and health for the coming school years.

Traditions surrounding the start of school

But it's not just the exciting performances that are the focus at the start of school. Starting school is traditionally celebrated with a so-called sugar bag, which contains useful school supplies and sweet treats. As Schokomarkt reports, chocolate is one of the typical components of these bags. Recommended treats include Rittersport Minis, Milka Naps and various Lindt products. You can now also purchase pre-filled sugar cones online, which are offered in different price ranges.

In Germany, the sugar cone is an important ritual that plays a particularly important role in the eastern federal states. The tradition is not only timeless, but was also gradually adopted in the old federal states. In this country, children can even be given modern gadgets such as electronic devices or smart watches when they start school, as MDR reports.

A look outside the box

It also gets exciting when you look at the back-to-school celebrations in other countries. While in Ukraine, where the school year begins on September 1st, teachers are given flowers by students, the sugar bag plays no role here. But overall, many Ukrainian children who go to school in Saxony because of the war in Ukraine have experienced their own start to school in a foreign country. From September onwards, more children will be added, who will also have an exciting time ahead of them.

In Lampertswalde there is also a small challenge awaiting the school management: the primary school currently has space problems as a planned extension still needs to be financed. Nevertheless, everyone involved is looking forward to putting a green classroom into operation in the new school year, which will offer a refreshing learning environment. The celebrations surrounding school enrollment take on both a traditional and a modern character, thanks to the wealth of ideas and commitment of the school community.
