Fish and Forest Festival in Moritzburg: A festival for the senses and tradition!

The fish and forest festival in Moritzburg, which took place from October 25th to 26th, 2025, attracted numerous visitors to the picturesque backdrop of the castle pond. The fishing trips in particular were a real magnet, as a total of six fishing trips harvested fresh carp from the water, which were then used in the festival's up-and-coming gastronomy. The lively show fishing was accompanied by expert moderation, which not only entertained the guests but also informed them about the Moritzburg ponds and pond management. Many took the opportunity to get recipes for cooking the freshly caught fish on site.

The event started in the morning on both days. On Saturday the festival opened at 10 a.m. and ended at 9 p.m.; on Sunday guests could come until 6 p.m. The live preparation of carp by talented show chefs in the festival tent was atmospheric and enjoyable. For nature lovers, there was a wide-ranging program on the subject of forests and the environment, carried out by the Sachsenforst state company, which sensitized visitors to the diverse topics of wood processing, wildlife and nature conservation.

A colorful supporting program

The festival not only offered culinary delicacies, but also a varied entertainment program. A traditional lantern parade took place on Saturday evening - a real highlight for the little guests and their families. From 6:30 p.m., a baroque fireworks display impressed visitors against the impressive backdrop of Moritzburg Castle.

Catering stands offered fresh fish from Teichwirtschaft Moritzburg GmbH as well as a variety of regional specialties. Visitors were able to choose between a variety of freshly prepared dishes and enjoy the market in a relaxed atmosphere. There was an adventure area for children with crafts and games, which provided a lot of fun.

Part of the Lausitz Fish Weeks

The Fish and Forest Festival is part of the 24th Lausitz Fish Weeks, which last from September 20th to November 2nd, 2025 and are characterized by various events, from the fishing festival to cooking courses. These weeks combine tradition, culture and regional cuisine and offer visitors the opportunity to purchase freshly caught and smoked products. The pond industry plays a central role, not only in preserving the unique landscape of the Upper Lusatian heath and pond landscape, but also through its efforts to protect species and regional nutrition. The pond owner of the year 2025, Lars Hempel from Teichwirtschaft Milkel, was also honored in this context.

Visitors who would like to find out more about the pond landscape can visit the “House of a Thousand Ponds” in Wartha, which provides exciting information on the history of pond management. With a nationwide share of 11%, Saxony is the second largest carp producer in Germany - so there is still a lot of potential and exciting tradition in play.
