Painters in the Meißen district: More money and rising wages by 2027!

The painting and varnishing industry is experiencing exciting times, especially in the Meißen district. How diesachsen.de reports, the approximately 400 employees in 65 companies have been able to look forward to higher income since April 2023. The new collective wage of 19.10 euros per hour ensures that full-time employees have around 110 euros more in their wallets per month. Quite a bit of extra money, right? Jörg Borowski from IG Bau Dresden confirms these changes and is pleased with the positive development.

And that's not all! There will be another wage increase next year. By 2027, the aim is for wage levels in eastern Germany to align with those in the west. In the old federal states, the collective wage was increased by 5% at the beginning of the year, while a further increase of 2.6% will follow in 2024, added deutsche-handwerks-zeitung.de. These measures are intended to make it possible for all employees in the painting and varnishing trade in Germany to be able to work at the same wage level in the future.

Training becomes more attractive

It's not just the employees who benefit from the changes. The trainees in the painting and varnishing trades don't miss out either. From August 2023, the remuneration for apprentices will increase by 50 euros - a welcome relief for many young people who are aiming for a career in this industry. In addition, a further increase in training allowances is planned for 2024, so that trainees will receive up to 800 euros in their first year of training.

However, current developments are not just limited to wage increases. As part of the collective bargaining adjustments, the minimum wages for the industry were also increased. From July 2023, employees without a collective wage are entitled to a minimum wage of 15.55 euros, which will certainly benefit many. From July 2026, the minimum wage will be raised to 16.13 euros, according to this dgb.de.

A look into the future

The collective bargaining negotiations of the last few years have borne fruit, and both employer and employee representatives are consistently positive. The aim is to make the work in the painting and varnishing trade not only fair but also attractive. The union continues to campaign hard for further wage increases to keep the industry interesting for future generations.

Overall, the painting and varnishing industry seems to be on the right track. With the planned raises and a strong focus on training, this could be a golden era for the trades.
