Meissen presents the city's first hand-painted selfie point!

A breath of creativity is blowing through Meissen - the city has inaugurated its first hand-painted selfie point. Mayor Olaf Raschke presented the latest attraction on Thursday, a colorful “Meissen” lettering that has found its place on the market square. The project, which has already attracted great interest from locals and tourists, was created to meet the increasing need for impressive photo opportunities in the city. “It’s something,” says Raschke, who describes the selfie point initiative as an effective marketing tool for the city.

The letters of the lettering, which are an impressive 1.20 meters high, were designed by talented artists from the Meissen art scene. Designer Olaf Fieber made a significant contribution to the artistic implementation, supported by other creatives such as Jana Pommer-Semper and Bart Lefebure. The motifs that adorn the letters range from a magnificent image of King Henry I to references to the porcelain carillon of the Frauenkirche and the Japanese twin town of Arita. Not only does the photo moment become an experience, but also a piece of Meissen history is told.

Sparkling plans for the future

In autumn, the creative lettering will move from its location on the market square to the picturesque vineyards. Here, surrounded by the rolling hills and with the castle hill in the background, it will allow for even more impressive images. The selfie point will be designed to be transportable so that it can be placed flexibly in different locations - a dazzling photo motif that will ensure many snapshots before the upcoming wine festival.

The total cost of the project is around 6,500 euros. This financing comes from guest taxes and city marketing funds. Meissen is not only a city with rich history and cultural heritage, but is now also becoming a magnet for those who want to make a splash on social media with an original selfie.

Comparison with other cities

Further original selfie points in Meißen are already being planned for the future. So it could well be that there will soon be even more opportunities for breathtaking photos in this beautiful city.
