Meißen presents colorful ceramic souvenirs: a feast for the senses!

Meissen, the city with a rich ceramic tradition, is celebrating a revival of its craft. Recent presentations of new, handmade souvenirs attract not only tourists but also locals. At the Meißen Tourist Information Office, Christina Czach provides information about the latest creation: souvenirs that are inspired by traditional designs as well as floral patterns and sculptural shapes. Isabel Riedel from the DRK Werkstätten Meißen and Ulrich Bierstedt from Bidtelia actively support this project. The handmade tiles are truly unique and come not only in classic designs, but also in different colors.

The tiles are manufactured in a renowned factory known for its high-quality glazes. In order to present these works of art appropriately, hand-crafted oak frames from the DRK workshops are used. Priced at 25 euros, the souvenirs are a great deal for all lovers of artisan ceramics. Anyone who would like to learn more about Meißen's traditional history of bricks and ceramics has the opportunity to take part in an exciting bike tour entitled “Ceramics that are close to understanding” on August 16th.

Meißen Adventure World: More than just ceramics

The city is not only known for its ceramics, but also for the fascinating Meißen adventure world. This is located directly at the famous factory, which has been producing exquisite porcelain for over 300 years. In addition to the demonstration workshop, which illustrates the individual steps of porcelain production, there is a museum that has over 300 years of history. Here visitors will find, among other things, the famous “Swan Service” by Kaendler from the 18th century.

Technology enthusiasts can look forward to a tour of production and even get to know different stages of production. Booking exclusive tours in eleven languages is particularly recommended for groups and school classes. After an informative visit to the museum, guests can enjoy modern regional cuisine in the café and restaurant, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Experience creativity

But that's not all, because the adventure world also offers creative workshops where visitors can lend a hand and model their own piece of Meissen porcelain. For those who just want to try their hand at painting, the options are a handle mug or a vide-poche bowl. The prices are quite moderate, so that younger participants aged 12 and over can also take advantage of this offer.

The souvenirs and the variety of experiences make Meißen an unforgettable destination. The special exhibition “Ceramic City of Meißen. Bricks, Tiles, Porcelain” in the city museum until November 3, 2025 rounds off the offering and shows the impressive development of crafts and the city’s industrial history.
