Meißen cycles 88,307 kilometers: a complete success for the city!
In Meißen, the bikes rolled at full speed from September 1st to 21st, 2023 as part of the first international city cycling competition. Under the motto of promoting cycling and getting more people excited about cycling, a whopping 526 cyclists took part in 28 teams, including authorities, companies, schools, daycare centers, clubs, families and city council groups. This large number of participants shows how much the people of Meißen focus on sustainable mobility.
With a total distance of 88,307 kilometers, the cyclists were not only able to test their fitness, but also make a significant contribution to climate protection. The comparison is impressive: if you had traveled this distance by car, around 14 tons of CO₂ would have been emitted Saxon communicates. In addition, not only the environment suffers, but also we ourselves when the air quality is contaminated by pollutants.
The best teams and cyclists
With so much commitment from the participants, some teams were able to celebrate very special successes. The Franziskaneum secured first place among the participating groups with an impressive 35,744 km - a great record with a total of 237 cyclists. The factory school took second place with 14,593 km with 81 cyclists, while the third team, the open team Meißen, also contributed significantly to the number of kilometers with 5,124 km and 17 cyclists.

This is followed by the Meißen open team with 301 km and the DRK workshops with 234 km. However, the award for the cyclists with the most kilometers is still pending, and it is said that this information will soon be made available by the town hall.
