New residential project in Meißen: 50 apartments for young and old!

There is a lot going on in Meißen at the moment, especially in the area around the “Zwergenmühle” daycare center on Mühlweg. The daycare center, which has been much more than just a safe place for the little ones since it opened in 1953, could soon experience a positive turn. Despite the proximity to a former garbage dump that was most recently used as an unsightly garage complex, exciting developments are on the horizon. The city is aware of the dilapidated condition of the site and is already planning measures to clean the area and use it for future housing projects. As Sächsische.de reports, the sale of the property, which the city acquired after years of vacancy, is imminent.

This sales process is currently being closely monitored by Oliver Eggert (AfD) in the city council. He asked questions about future security of the site. Building department head Albrecht Herrmann explained that construction fences were not the optimal solution at this location because they would quickly become a dumping ground for garbage. Instead, the aim is to comprehensively clear the area after the sale has been certified.

New residential project for Meißen

The city works closely with Faust Investment GmbH, which is planning a large residential project on Höroldtstrasse. Up to 50 new apartments are to be built here. The architects Frank Mehnert and his team have specialized in implementing “multi-generational living”, which should not only offer the residents a roof over their heads, but also a lively community. The planned apartments will mainly be between 60 and 75 square meters in size - ideal for families and younger people.

Particularly noteworthy is the access via Mühlweg, which is intended for the new tenants. The concept also envisages the integration of modern facilities: elevators, larger green areas and an expanded photovoltaic system on the roof are just some of the planned features. The Johanniter should also be involved in the housing project as a partner with a social institution that will provide a forum for meetings. Tenants can book care services without a care level being necessary.

The need for new living space in Meißen is enormous, and the city is striving to create attractive living conditions. As Bauen-Wohnen Sachsen states, the development of urban centers plays a crucial role in counteracting demographic challenges and encouraging new immigration.

The “Dwarf Mill” in focus

The “Zwergenmühle” daycare center mentioned by name is an important part of the local community, caring for a total of 137 children. After a renovation in 2006/2007 and the opening of a branch that closed in 2022, the facility remains a place for support and education. With the help of qualified staff, emphasis is placed on the individual development of each child, and there are also special integration places for children with special needs. The real-life approach according to the Saxon education plan encourages children to develop independently and discover their strengths, which is central to healthy development. These children can also benefit from the planned changes in the future.

While the city is actively working to improve living conditions and infrastructure, it becomes clear that urban life in Meißen is more than just new apartments - it is an overall concept for better coexistence. These advances have set the course for the city's positive development, and citizens can hope for further exciting changes.
