Pilgrimage Day in Leipzig: On the trail of the Peaceful Revolution!

On November 8, 2025, Leipzig will be the setting for a special event: the pilgrimage day “In the Footsteps of the Peaceful Revolution” invites you to explore the roots of social change. Organized by the Catholic academies of the dioceses of Dresden-Meißen, Magdeburg and Erfurt, the event begins at 11:00 a.m. in the reading café of the provost of St. Trinity.

A varied program awaits participants. The first station introduces the topic of “Faith, Responsibility and Departure” with the speakers Prof. Dr. Eberhard Tiefensee, a former student pastor, and the historian Rainer Müller. The latter will also offer a city tour that leads to central locations of the Peaceful Revolution, which will certainly provide not only historical knowledge, but also a deep feeling for the events of that time. Afterwards there will be a snack in the “Runde Ecke” museum and the opportunity to start a conversation - an ideal opportunity to reflect on the thoughts and emotions of the participants.

Stasi files and the monument workshop

Another item on the program is the contribution by historian Stefan Walter, who will provide insights into the Stasi files. He talks about documenting and coming to terms with the events of that time, which is more important than ever so as not to forget the lessons from the past.

The conclusion is the Peaceful Revolution monument workshop in the Hansa Haus with Gesine Oltmanns. She will report on her personal commitment in the 1980s and how civil courage is still practiced in various forms today. An inspiring end to a day that will end around 5:00 p.m.

Details and registration

Participation in this informative day costs 15 euros. Admission is free for schoolchildren, trainees and students. Due to the limited number of participants of 30 people, binding registration is required by November 1, 2025. Anyone interested can contact the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Dresden-Meißen directly, either by phone on 0351/ 484 47-310 or by email at info@katholische-akademie-dresden.de.

This event not only offers the opportunity to delve deeply into history, but also to experience the current social relevance of civil courage. A good reason to put the day in your calendar!
