Rain is causing problems for the bathing establishment at the Coswig bathing lake!

In Cologne, the weather conditions in recent weeks have proven to be a real challenge for the bathing restaurant at the Coswig bathing lake. For five weeks, clouds, rain and thunderstorms severely affected leisure activities at Lake Kötitz. Owner Olaf Püschmann reports that the unstable weather conditions have led to a noticeable decline in the number of visitors. This is particularly unfortunate as the summer months are traditionally the peak season for his establishment.

To ease the pressure, Püschmann decided to close his family's local restaurant and concentrate fully on the bathing establishment. Since 2024, the family has been running the restaurant in close cooperation with the Forsthaus Coswig, which also remains closed during the summer months in order to draw attention to the popular excursion destination at the swimming lake.

A few warm days and record visitors

Unfortunately, this side of the world is not showing its best side: this summer there were hardly any hot days that could cause an influx of guests. Nevertheless, there was a moment of hope when a record 4,000 guests were counted on the warm June day. This unexpected visit gave the company a financial buffer for the harder weeks of the rainy summer holidays.

“That makes it a little easier,” says Püschmann, “but of course we hope that the weather will change soon and bring us more guests.” But the unstable weather conditions remain an issue. Other providers in the region also had to fight for the favor of sun worshipers, because with such gloomy prospects many prefer to stay at home.

The need for luck in the weather

The bathing establishment has always tried to offer its guests a pleasant environment, but nature often has other plans. A summer characterized by little sun and a lot of rain leaves families with long faces on their trips. If the weather doesn't go well, it could become a problem for the restaurant's economic situation.

For Olaf Püschmann and his team, the only hope is that the coming weeks will bring more sun and warm days. After all, the well-being of the restaurant depends not only on the service and quality, but also on the weather gods, who can sometimes be a little capricious.

The current circumstances are an important reminder of how much the weather influences our leisure activities. One day the swimming trip can be almost perfect, but the next day the swimming trunks stay in the closet. A constant challenge for everyone in the hospitality industry, especially in these difficult times that we have no control over.
