Record numbers of apprenticeship contracts: East Saxony relies on craft training!
Craft training is flourishing in East Saxony! By the end of October 2023, 2,282 young people were able to look forward to a new apprenticeship contract. Compared to the previous year, this represents an increase of around 6%, which underlines the dynamic development on the training market in the region. According to diesachsen.de, this is the strongest October in ten years. What is particularly noteworthy is that 500 women and 1,782 men took the step into a skilled trades career.
The numbers in the Chemnitz Chamber of Crafts district are also impressive: over 2,400 new training positions were awarded in the east and south of Saxony. 1,374 young people began their training here, including 271 women and 797 men in the district of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts, as generalebauzeitung.de reports. This means that the trade continues to attract many motivated school leavers, career changers and those dropping out of university.
Popularity of apprenticeships
The most common apprenticeships are still very popular. The list of the most popular professions in East Saxony is headed by:
- Kraftfahrzeugmechatroniker: 359 neue Verträge
 - Anlagenmechaniker für Sanitär-, Heizungs- und Klimatechnik: 173
 - Elektroniker: 167
 - Tischler: 112
 - Friseur: 104
 - Fachverkäufer im Lebensmittelhandwerk: 103
 - Maler und Lackierer: 93
 - Dachdecker: 83

As hwk-dresden.de notes, companies' willingness to provide training remains unbroken, despite the challenges that the economic environment brings with it. It is the eighth year in a row that more than 2,000 young people have chosen a career in the skilled trades.
Investing in young talent
Andreas Brzezinski, General Manager of the Chamber of Crafts, emphasizes how important it is for companies to invest in young talent. In order to continue to make training attractive, companies need predictable framework conditions. These include less bureaucracy, strong career orientation as well as modern training regulations and support offers.
