Serious accident in Leuben: 72-year-old cyclist injured!
Today, September 18, 2025, the police once again have numerous reports from the region, ranging from serious accidents to thefts. Particularly noteworthy is a serious cycling accident in Leuben that happened in the morning, in which a 72-year-old cyclist was hit by an 82-year-old driver while turning. The lady was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital. [Sächsische] reports that such accidents are unfortunately not uncommon and that the police repeatedly emphasize the need for caution in road traffic.
But that wasn't the only terrible news of the day: In Großenhain there was a deflagration in an apartment on Wednesday morning, which resulted in a fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the material damage remains unclear for the time being.
Accidents and property damage
Another incident occurred in Nünchritz, where a 40-year-old truck driver damaged a property gate. The property damage amounts to around 5,000 euros, but fortunately there were no injuries. Several cases of theft were also reported in the same region, including in Klipphausen, where a side window of a VW Crafter was broken at the Dresdner Tor service station and a bag worth around 100 euros was stolen.
In Riesa, the police also reported several incidents: A 78-year-old driver caused an accident while parking, which caused property damage of around 3,500 euros. Another theft involved a wallet from a Hyundai i10, the total damage to which is estimated at around 2,300 euros.
Additional incidents
Although the police are trying to prevent crimes, there have also been calls from fraudulent strangers in Riesa who tried to con an 84-year-old woman out of several thousand euros. Luckily, she informed the police in time so that no financial damage was caused.
As the statisticians report, traffic accidents are also a big issue in general; Due to inattentive drivers, such as a 63-year-old from Mannheim who overlooked a 68-year-old from Bad König while turning, both occupants of a car were slightly injured. The material damage here amounts to around 25,000 euros. This shows that special attention should be paid to road safety not only in our region, but also in other cities. [News.de] has published current information on this.
The Federal Statistical Office draws attention to another point in traffic safety: false cover letters are circulating that ask citizens to report data, but have nothing to do with the institution. [Destatis] warns urgently against such attempted fraud.
Overall, it should be noted that the current reports represent a wide range of challenges that affect both the police and citizens in the region. The measures taken by the relevant authorities are therefore even more important to ensure safety on the roads and in communities.
