Traffic chaos in Meißen: Fabrikstrasse closed for four months!

From June 30th, Fabrikstrasse in Meißen will be completely closed for the next four months. The reason for this measure is construction work for a new residential and commercial district, which is intended to promote urban development. This restriction is expected to remain in place until the end of October 2023, as Sächsische reports. Vehicles can currently still drive via Fabrikstrasse from Moritzburger Platz towards Beyerlein-Platz, but soon they will have to “take a detour”.

The diversions for road users have already been determined. The diversion takes place via Dresdner Straße and Zaschendorfer Straße. This means that traffic will remain fluid in the next few months. Important to note for truck drivers: You must use a regional diversion via Dresdner Straße, Cliebener Straße and Neusörnewitz. Cyclists were also catered for; You can use your own detour between Brauhausstraße, Cöllner Straße and Zaschendorfer Straße. Despite the closure, access to Brauhausstraße, OBI, Netto and other shops on Fabrikstraße remains possible.

Construction work in the old town

It's not just Fabrikstrasse that is affected. There will also be traffic restrictions in the old town area on June 28th and 29th due to the “Gassenzauber” event. The affected areas are the market, the small market, the Heinrichsplatz, the Theaterplatz and the Schulplatz, as the city of Meißen reports. Such events are a highlight and often cause a lot of activity, but also pose a challenge for traffic.

Another construction project is the renovation of Alte Spaargasse, which will be completely closed from June 16th to 27th. The reason for this is work on a natural stone wall that is being carried out during this period. These measures demonstrate that Meissen, like many other cities, is investing in infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing population.

Additional construction sites and diversions

The challenges for drivers and pedestrians are not decreasing: further full and partial closures are expected throughout the city. For example, Auenstrasse will remain completely closed until July 17th due to the renewal of a drinking water pipe. August-Bebel-Straße is also affected; work on the renovation measures will continue here until October. These various construction sites have a significant impact on traffic flows and require good planning on the part of those affected.

  • Fabrikstraße: Vollsperrung vom 30.06. bis Ende Oktober 2023.
  • Altstadtbereich: Verkehrseinschränkungen am 28. und 29. Juni.
  • Alte Spaargasse: Vollsperrung vom 16. bis 27. Juni.
  • Auenstraße: Vollsperrung vom 17.03. bis 17.07.2023.
  • August-Bebel-Straße: Halbseitige Sperrung bis 10.10.2023.

The Meißen administration's information platform always provides up-to-date data on diversions and construction sites. If you want to stay up to date, you can go directly to the website Meissen administrative community inform about changes.

Overall, the upcoming full closure of Fabrikstrasse brings with it both challenges and opportunities. While the diversions can make traffic difficult at times, innovative residential and business opportunities await Meißen and its visitors.
