Villa Kolbe in Radebeul: Golden lace and time capsule ceremoniously unveiled!

A lot is currently happening in Radebeul with regard to Villa Kolbe. The renovation of the imposing building, which was built in 1890/91 in the magnificent neo-Renaissance style, is increasingly taking shape. This pleases not only the city, but above all the monument protection officers, who have an eye on the extensive history of the building and its importance for the region.

Last Tuesday, the reconstructed spire of the villa was ceremoniously received by René Kuhnt, the current owner. The highlight of this event is the time capsule that will be placed at the top. This capsule is not only a symbol of the past, but also contains a thank you to the donors who gave many ideas and financial support at the open monument day. On the second Sunday in September, Kuhnt welcomed around 7,000 visitors who were interested in the history of the villa.

A villa with history

Villa Kolbe, also known as Kohlmann Villa or Schramm Clinic, has an eventful history. Originally built by Carl Kolbe, a chemist and general director of the Heyden Chemical Factory, the building has been owned by various prominent people over the years. Until the 1970s it served as a branch of the Radebeul district hospital. In recent years, however, the villa has been badly neglected and stood unused.

This makes the comprehensive renovation that is now beginning all the more important and is estimated to cost a total of around 6.6 million euros. What is certain is that part of the proceeds from the fundraising campaigns will be used to finance the fairytale spire. The reconstruction itself represents not only a building block in the restoration, but also a kind of love letter to 19th century architecture.

A unique monument

Villa Kolbe is one of the most elaborate and stylish villas in Radebeul. Its impressive architecture, which features high basement floors and red facing bricks, not only attracts history buffs, but is also a true testimony of the time. The associated English landscape garden completes the beautiful ensemble and makes the villa a special place.

Exciting details about the villa can illuminate the different phases of its use. From its construction in the 19th century, through various owners such as the surgeon Anton Johannes Kohlmann, who had a “mixed marriage” and was confronted with many challenges during the Nazi era, to its use as a clinic, this historic building has a lot to tell.

As the renovation progresses, Villa Kolbe will become not only an architectural but also a cultural highlight for Radebeul. In the context of the city's ongoing developments and commitment, this love of history simply cannot be overlooked. The goal is clear: the villa should shine in new splendor and be made accessible to future generations as a valuable heritage.

Villa Kolbe, which can be found at Zinzendorfstrasse 16, will be a place of remembering and learning. If you would like to find out more about the history and the renovation projects, you can find out more here: Sächsische.de, Rent By Owner, and Wikipedia.
