Villa Kolbe in Radebeul: Renovation ensures a stop through monument protection!

The impressive one is in Radebeul Villa Kolbe, an architectural gem from 1890/91, currently the focus of renovation work. The owner, René Kuhnt, bought the villa in spring 2022 and after years of disrepair, during which the villa was empty for 30 years, there is now a breath of fresh air. The surrounding garden, which was once overgrown, now has new lawns and a clear view of the magnificent villa.

Kuhnt works hard and visits the construction site three times a week. While the west side has now been completely renovated and unsightly graffiti has disappeared, the north and east facades are currently being reinforced with new scaffolding. “There is a lot of work to be done, but progress is visible,” says Kuhnt. Extensive work is currently underway, especially in the roof area: the gables, turrets and bay windows have been re-covered, and the decorative elements on the roof now even shine with gold leaf.

A piece of history comes to life again

The architecture of the villa is considered one of the most elaborate in the city and is characterized by the style of a German Renaissance castle, as the author of berndroth.net determines. Visitors are often overwhelmed by the magnificent design and ornate columns in the basement and find themselves in a historical ambience that seemed almost forgotten.

The city of Radebeul paid a symbolic euro for the area and then sold it on to Kuhnt for 35,000 euros. This decision shows how important the preservation of such historic buildings is for the city. However, it's not just about the building itself, but also about the adjacent park. In this, original lawns and old paths were reconstructed; However, further work is currently on hold due to a lack of permits that must be issued by the monument protection authority.

An open day

An important date is already on the calendar: An open day will take place on September 14, 2023, where those interested can view the renovated Villa Kolbe. Kuhnt plans to complete the outer shell by mid-September 2023, which should already attract a lot of curious eyes.

Kuhnt is working with a landscape architect on the new park plans, which will soon be submitted to the monument protection authority. So it remains exciting to see how the story of Villa Kolbe continues and what treasures it will offer in the future.
