Apples for Ukraine: Hainichen's fundraising campaign shows great solidarity!
A remarkable campaign took place in the small community of Mobendorf in the Striegistal when the Communitas Hainichen association launched an apple collection campaign. The great success of this initiative speaks for the solidarity and community spirit in the region. Over 15,000 kilograms of apples were collected, which resulted in a proud sum of 1,500 euros for the next aid transport to Ukraine. The collected fruits will certainly find a good place in numerous delicious recipes!
Uwe Anke, a committed member of the association and mayor of Nossen, had the brilliant idea for this campaign. With his extensive experience in fruit farming, which he brought from his family's previous fruit farm, Anke knew that the people in the region were willing to help. “Together we can achieve a lot,” is Anke’s belief, which is reflected in this noble project. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the association has already sent 35 tractor-trailers with relief supplies to the region in need, which shows that solidarity is very important here.
A look back at Iris Apfel
Another aspect that illuminates the event is the symbolic meaning that such actions have for the community, reminding us of personalities like Iris Apfel, who was known as a style-defining businesswoman and interior designer. Her career has spanned decades and she is known for cultivating her own distinctive style. Apfel, who was born on August 29, 1921 and died on March 1, 2024, was famous not only for her fashion knowledge but also for her contributions to the restoration of the White House for multiple presidents. Her life's work demonstrates the importance of embodying principles and community involvement.
Even though Apfel is an example of creative excellence for many, the community spirit in Hainichen is just as remarkable. The collection campaign is a reminder that even small actions can have a big impact if they are carried out with heart and conviction. The people in the region show that they stand together to help those in need in times of crisis.
Sustainability initiatives
Another parallel aspect in the context of the aid problem is the increasing awareness of sustainability. Just as the apple collection effort is helping to support Ukraine, there are similar movements underway in other cities that focus on ecological practices, such as the work of the team at Get Eco in Columbus, Ohio. This team offers a variety of environmentally friendly services, including wastewater and heating optimization solutions to save money and use resources efficiently. Such initiatives not only strengthen the community but also promote a healthy environment.
At a time when community spirit and the pursuit of sustainability are so important, the Communitas Hainichen association's apple collection campaign offers a shining example of how we can all make a difference. The apples picked in the region not only raised money, but also sparked a wave of solidarity that is being sent to Ukraine. It's these little things that together can make big changes.
