Mayor in fairytale fever: Snow White conquers Kriebstein!
Last weekend, more precisely on July 12th and 13th, 2025, Kriebstein Castle was transformed into a true fairytale paradise. At the event “A Weekend in the Fairy Tale State” numerous fairy tale characters from 1001 Nights and the popular stories by the Brothers Grimm and Hans-Christian Andersen came to life. Among the many enthusiastic guests was Maria Euchler, the mayor of Kriebstein, who strolled through the historic walls in a lively costume and a striking black wig. Her radiant blonde hair remained hidden during the event, which is part of the Central Saxony Cultural Summer (Miskus), but her enthusiasm was obvious and infectious, as the Freie Presse reports.
At this lovingly designed children's festival, organized by eins energie in sachsen, Automobile Werner, WEPA and Sparkasse Mittelsachsen, visitors could expect not only a fairy tale stage with witches, magicians and jugglers, but also a large supporting program with craft and souvenir stands. The highlight was the ceremonial entry of the fairytale king Frank I and his wife Andrea I, who were warmly welcomed at 11 a.m. on both days.
A colorful hustle and bustle at the castle
The castle, which stands out for its impressive location and historical significance, provided the perfect setting for such an event. Visitors could be carried away with exciting stories by storytellers in the castle cellar and ballroom. According to the organizers, many special guests were also present, including the famous fictional character Giacomo Casanova and fairy tale characters from the Orient. The comedians “Zeter und Mordio” welcomed guests young and old at the castle gate, which caused lots of laughter and a warm atmosphere.
There were plenty of parking options for the journey, including a large car park at the Kriebstein dam, which was only a 10-minute walk from the castle. Guests were also made aware of additional parking spaces with electric charging stations. However, dogs were not allowed, which unfortunately met with little enthusiasm from the four-legged companions, as the entire event was obviously very child-friendly and family-oriented.
Politicians in fairytale fever
The fairy tale festival is very popular across the region. The 4th Fairy Tale Festival is taking place almost at the same time in Saxony, in which many politicians will also take part. Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich (CDU) and State Parliament President Matthias Rößler have also confirmed their attendance. This festival, which pays particular attention to the border region with the Czech Republic and the Ore Mountains, begins on August 17th and promises a series of exciting events. A thematic reading series will also be continued here as part of the 1st International Fairy Tale Film Festival “Fabulix” in Annaberg-Buchholz, which underlines the importance of fairy tale culture in the region, as Die Sachsen reports.
The combination of history, tradition and a touch of magic makes the events in and around Kriebstein Castle simply indispensable for all fairy tale lovers and makes the hearts of young and old beat faster. Because in the world of fairy tales everything is possible, and so next year it will be a pleasure to immerse yourself in this lively fantasy world.
